The holiday has a long history dating back to the 1500s. It is associated with pranks because it signals the arrival of spring.
Many musicians love to play pranks on each other and their fans. Famous singer Michael Jackson used to prank call actor Russell Crowe. Jackson figured out the fake name Crowe used at hotels and would call him with the same kind of prank lines you used to use when you were 10-years-old. “Is Mrs. Wall there?” “Is your refrigerator running?”
Back in 2010, Drake tweeted a prank about getting married to Nicki Minaj. Naturally, this caused an internet frenzy. He said to refer to Minaj as Mrs. Aubrey Drake Graham.
One of the most famous internet music pranks was “Rick Rolling.” This prank involved sending someone a link to something that sounded like a big deal, and then having it play Rick Astley’s 1987 hit, “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
