Happy Memorial Day, everyone!

Memorial Day can stir mixed feels of patriotism and loss.  Patriotism for the heroes who served us and loss for the families who grieve. One thing the day brings us is gratitude.

Let’s stop to  remember our fallen troops who died in service to our country.

Here are 4 facts you may not know:

  1. In 1971 Memorial Day was declared a holiday.
  2. Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day after the American Civil War ended in 1868. Loved ones honored the day by decorating graves of Union war dead with flowers.
  3. Many confuse Memorial Day with Veterans Day which honors all veterans living and deceased.  Memorial Day helps family, friends, and loved ones deal with the loss of someone that died honorably serving our country.
  4. Memorial Day is always observed on the last Monday in the month of May.
